Sr. Engineering Lead Matt Rabe has been working with Flower Press Interactive for 15 of his 25+ years building custom software solutions and applications. He currently lives and works in Hawaii with his wife and son.
What drew you to a career as an engineer?
I’ve always been interested in solving complex problems. I grew up taking things apart to figure out how they work and put them back together. The complexity of tech drew me in – there’s always another problem to solve.
What’s your favorite part of the job?
I really enjoy solving challenging problems. What I love about engineering is that each project is something new. Challenges are the fun part of the business!
What’s your favorite thing to do outside of work?
I have a new family and spending time with them and building traditions is my favorite way to spend time outside of work. Going to the beach together is one of our favorite things to do.
Do any past projects stand out to you?
It’s hard to pick just one! Every project presents something new, and that new-ness is exciting! I particularly enjoy projects that focus on bringing people together and making a positive impact in the world.
What would surprise people about your job?
I think it would surprise people that code is written for humans more than for machines. Code is alive and evolves over time, and we take care to make sure it can be read by humans. Engineers need to extend effort in making their code readable so it can be maintained by our team members and peers in the industry.
